A Merseyside town is on the brink of a dramatic makeover as plans to demolish a large, vacant office block have been confirmed, marking a significant milestone in a multi-million pound regeneration project.

The former education building on Huyton Hey Road, which has stood empty since early 2023, will soon be razed to the ground, heralding a new era for the town. Located opposite the McDonald’s on a vital thoroughfare in and out of the town centre, the building has been declared by Knowsley Council as ‘past its useful life’.

In addition to the demolition plans, the council has also sealed the deal on the £2.3 million acquisition of empty shopping units on Cavendish Walk. These strategic moves form part of an extensive regeneration scheme aimed at revitalising and modernising the town, with blueprints for a dynamic mixed-use commercial hub.

Knowsley Council has laid out a comprehensive 10-year development plan for Huyton Village Centre, outlined in a master plan that encompasses new residential dwellings, commercial and office spaces, and the creation of a new village green. Improved public transport links to the village centre are also on the agenda.

“We’re thrilled to announce this crucial step in our regeneration efforts for Huyton,” remarked Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development. “Residents and businesses alike deserve modern facilities, and we’re determined to deliver on that promise.”

The demolition of the Huyton Hey Road building, scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, represents a significant stride forward in the regeneration initiative, set to breathe new life into the town and inject a £50 million boost into the local economy.

Acknowledging the challenges faced in securing funding for the project, Cllr Brennan affirmed the council’s unwavering commitment to seeing the ambitious scheme through. “We will continue to lobby the Government, highlighting why Huyton needs to be levelled up,” he stated.
