A major new renewables energy generation project off the Welsh coast has the support of Denbighshire Councillors.

Off the coast of Conwy and Denbighshire the scheme would involve a 19-mile barrage with underwater turbines changing able to change the tide. The scheme has been touted by a private sector company, who remain unnamed, but the council will now help lobby for the project to get the go-ahead.

Backing the scheme had been put forward by cabinet member Cllr Brian Jones on behalf of the Conservative Party.

The council leader Cllr Huw Evans, independent, also supported Cllr Jones’ motion at the full council meeting to support a project which he said should be seen as a ‘north Wales tidal lagoon’.
