Tameside is making plans for over 400 homes and commercial accommodation in Stalybridge.

The ‘Stalybridge West opportunity’ will be discussed by the council’s Place and External Relations Scrutiny panel’.

A total of £130,000 GM Evergreen Surplus funding has been landed by the council to undertake development studies on eight sites in Stalybridge West.

A “regeneration catalyst” study was completed in 2022 that identified opportunities to provide new provision of more than 400 new homes and commercial accommodation.

The report said a development prospectus would be prepared to support bringing the opportunity” to market.

A total of £35m has been bid for by Tameside Council from the government’s Levelling Up Fund. 

If the bid is approved, a total of £11.1m will be used for remediation and re-provision of existing surface car parking on brownfield land, as well as to prepare the sites for future residential development and to help facilitate further private sector investment in Stalybridge West. 

The Tameside meeting will take place 20 September.
