Data Centre: Wales Latos Data Centres Breaks Ground on First Hyperscale Facility in Cardiff November 28th, 2024 Deividas Krupstas Latos Data Centres has secured approval for a state-of-the-art 540,000 sq ft tier three data centre in Cardiff, marking a significant milestone in the company’s UK expansion. The facility will deliver 90MVA of power capacity, fully sourced from 100% renewable energy supplied by the UK national grid. A backup feed from the Tremorfa Energy Park, one of the world’s largest battery energy storage facilities, will ensure operational reliability.As Latos’ first hyperscale complex, the Cardiff site is designed to support advanced AI applications, including autonomous vehicles and smart manufacturing. The facility will address growing demand for low-latency, high-performance data solutions while setting new benchmarks for energy efficiency and sustainability.Development work on the facility will begin immediately, creating approximately 1,000 construction jobs in the local area. Once operational, the centre is expected to generate 200 direct jobs and up to 300 roles within the local supply chain, contributing significantly to Cardiff’s economic growth and technological advancement.This Cardiff data centre is part of Latos’ ambitious plan to develop 40 purpose-built AI-focused facilities across the UK by 2030. These centres will feature flexible modular designs, robust security measures, and advanced energy-efficient technologies, reinforcing Latos’ leadership in AI-driven digital infrastructure.
