Coventry’s city centre is poised for a monumental transformation as plans for a near £450m development, promising to deliver 991 new homes alongside a vibrant mix of shops, bars, and restaurants, receive planning approval. This marks the commencement of the ambitious City Centre South project, aiming to rejuvenate the heart of Coventry by early 2027.

Spanning four buildings with heights ranging from five to 19 storeys, the development seeks to fuse residential living with ample public space, including the introduction of public artworks and scale replicas of the History of Coventry murals by William Mitchell. The initiative reflects the city council’s vision to revitalise the city’s core, enticing residents to live, work, and socialise within a newly thriving neighbourhood.

Areas targeted for transformation include City Arcade, Bull Yard, Market Way, Shelton Square, and Hertford Street, envisioned as a bustling and dynamic community hub. The development will also feature 17,000 square metres of open public space, enhancing the cityscape and promoting communal engagement.

The housing mix will cater to a broad spectrum of residents, offering one to three-bedroom apartments. A significant portion, with 200 homes designated as affordable housing, aims to address the local demand for accessible living options. Additionally, all residences will boast either a balcony or terrace, further enriched by communal podium gardens, roof terraces, and beautifully landscaped squares, ensuring a high quality of life within the heart of Coventry.
