The North East Lincolnshire Council has unveiled an £18.4 million seafront enhancement project in Cleethorpes, targeting a transformative redevelopment of the Market Place, Pier Gardens, and Sea Road, financed by the Levelling Up Fund.

A tender opportunity is now open for design consultants to lead the regeneration efforts of Cleethorpes’ Market Place. The project’s ambition is to bolster social engagement, create employment opportunities, and elevate the local economy by prioritising pedestrian-friendly spaces and encouraging the flow of visitors between the seafront and town centre.

Preparations for the project are slated to begin in January 2024, with the council partnering with Equans and the appointed design consultancy to integrate public feedback into the design process. The aim is to finalise design plans through community engagement, setting the stage for a main contractor to start work in the subsequent summer.

Interested design consultants are invited to submit their tenders through the YORtender platform by the 27th of November.

In a statement, Councillor Philip Jackson expressed optimism about the project’s potential to enrich Cleethorpes as an attractive destination for both locals and tourists year-round. The initiative is part of a broader vision to rejuvenate key areas of the resort, preserving its heritage while introducing modern amenities and recreational spaces.
