Housing & Residential: London 350 Home Cockfosters Tube Station Housing Development Approved by Government September 3rd, 2024 Mya Driver The government has granted approval for a new housing development at Cockfosters Tube station in north London, paving the way for the construction of 350 new homes. The development, which will consist of four residential blocks, will be built on the site of the station’s former car park.Transport for London (TfL) had initially sought approval from the Secretary of State in 2021 to sell the land currently used for parking, but the request was denied by the then Secretary of State. With the new approval, TfL can now move forward with its plans, including updating designs to meet current fire safety standards and coordinating with the local council planning authority on necessary adjustments.Places for London, TfL’s property development arm, is spearheading the project as part of its broader goal to begin construction on 20,000 homes across the capital by 2031, with 50 per cent of these homes designated as affordable housing.Mayor of London Sadiq Khan welcomed the decision, stating, “After the previous government refused to approve the plans, I’m delighted that the new government has given us the green light to progress exciting plans for new homes at Cockfosters station. Building homes right next to public transport connections is a key part of our plans to deliver the high-quality homes Londoners need.”Graeme Craig, Director and Chief Executive of Places for London, added, “We are delighted that we are now able to make progress with our plans at Cockfosters now that we have the green light to release the land. We look forward to working across the capital with the Government and the Mayor as we progress the plans to deliver the homes that London urgently needs.”This opportunity perfectly typifies the kinds of developments discussed at UKREiiF, the UK’s largest real estate and property festival, which attracts property professionals from across the nation. To register your place at the UK’s biggest real estate and property festival, visit https://www.ukreiif.com/ukreiif-2025/.
