Juergen Maier

Juergen Maier, the former Chief Executive of Siemens UK, has been appointed as the Chair of Great British Energy, the newly established state-backed power company.

With 33 years of experience at Siemens UK, one of the biggest wind turbine producers in the UK, Mr Maier brings extensive expertise to the role. He also serves as a visiting professor at several universities, including the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Great British Energy, part of the Labour government’s plan to achieve clean power by 2030, was announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a speech in North West England. The initiative aims to position the UK as a leader in renewable energy, focusing on creating skilled jobs and fostering investment in clean energy.

In conjunction with Energy Secretary, the Prime Minister unveiled a partnership between Great British Energy and The Crown Estate, potentially attracting up to £60 billion in private investment. This collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in the UK’s clean energy future and will undoubtedly be mentioned at upcoming investment networking events in Manchester.

Energy UK has highlighted the potential of GB Energy to boost clean energy and attract investment, emphasising the need for collaboration with the private sector to ensure success.

Juergen Maier CBE, the new Chair of Great British Energy, stated: “Great British Energy will be a publicly-owned national clean energy champion, ensuring British people reap the benefits of clean, secure, home-grown energy. I’m excited to lead this company and work with the private sector and communities to rapidly expand skilled jobs and investment across the country.”
