Plans for New Commercial Space at Manchester’s 77-79 Mosley Street July 8th, 2024 Mya Driver Architect Atelier MB has applied for planning and listed building consent on behalf of Biz Assets to transform the empty premises at 77-79 Mosley Street, Manchester.If approved by Manchester City Council, the proposals would create 21,500 sq ft of commercial space, with 13,000 sq ft designated for offices and nearly 9,000 sq ft for retail or leisure use.Original shop fronts would be reinstated on Princess Street and Mosley Street, creating new retail and restaurant spaces. The offices and reception would have an entrance facing St Peter’s Square.The plans include restoring the original lightwell and installing two lifts to access workspaces on the upper floors. Each of the three upper floors would feature two workspaces, ranging from 1,690 sq ft to 2,615 sq ft. Cycle parking and changing facilities would be added in the basement.The grade two-listed building has been vacant since 2010.Andrew Burns, managing director of Atelier MB, highlighted the historical importance of the building, emphasising its fitting original use as office and warehouse space. He noted that the restoration would retain its historic character while meeting modern standards, and its prominent location would contribute to the city centre’s transformation.The project team also includes Ludlam Associates, OBI, PDA Acoustics, and Redmore Environmental. The heritage statement was produced by Atelier MB’s in-house heritage department, headed by director Laura Jessup.
