Peterborough Council Endorses Affordable Housing Plan June 19th, 2024 Mya Driver Peterborough City Council’s cabinet has approved a new housing strategy aimed at increasing affordable housing and addressing homelessness in the city. The Peterborough Housing Strategy for 2024-29, backed on Monday, is set to be presented to the full council for final adoption next month. The strategy outlines four primary housing priorities, including the provision of accessible and supported accommodation in Peterborough. The council plans to collaborate with partner organisations, registered housing providers, landowners, developers, and community organisations to implement the strategy.A six-week public consultation held earlier this year gathered feedback from residents, businesses, stakeholders, and organisations, contributing to the strategy’s development. The strategy’s four main priorities are:– Promoting sustainable growth and regeneration through high-quality place-making to support Peterborough’s ambition to become a net-zero carbon city.– Increasing the availability of affordable homes and preventing homelessness.– Improving the quality and standards of existing homes.– Addressing the need for accessible and adapted housing, supported accommodation, and housing for specific groups.Anne Keogh, the council’s housing strategy and implementation manager, expressed gratitude for the public’s feedback. “We would like to thank everyone who took part in the public consultation for their helpful feedback, which will help shape this vital document going forwards. The Housing Strategy is intended to benefit everyone who lives within the council’s area. It will set out the key role that housing plays in improving the economic, social, and environmental aspirations of the city as well as identifying what we and our partners can work together to address the housing needs of current and future households,” she stated.
