Edinburgh’s W Hotel, known for its distinctive bronze-clad steel exterior, has been put up for sale just months after its opening in November 2023. Situated in the heart of the £1bn St James Quarter, the hotel is known for its unique design.

Designed by Jestico and Whites, the hotel was initially named the “ribbon hotel” and intended to replace the old 1960s St James Centre and New St Andrews House office block. The W Hotel features 244 rooms spread over ten storeys and boasts a 360-degree panoramic rooftop bar.

Now, the hotel is being marketed for sale along with a stake in the connected shopping centre and apartment complex. The estate agent Savills, representing Nuveen Real Estate, described the sale as an “exceptional opportunity”.

The listing of the W Hotel comes as part of the ongoing evolution of the St James Quarter, which aims to revitalise the area with new commercial and residential spaces.
