Hospitality and Hotels: London Starwood Capital Expands London Presence with 10-Hotel Acquisition from Edwardian Group January 15th, 2024 Mya Driver Starwood Capital Group, an international private investment firm with a focus on real estate, has announced the acquisition of a collection of 10 hotels from Edwardian Group. This deal was finalised through an off-market transaction for an undisclosed amount.This notable addition to Starwood’s portfolio includes a total of 2,053 rooms. Despite the sale, Edwardian Group retains ownership and operational control over The Londoner and its two Radisson Collection hotels, The May Fair and The Edwardian Manchester.The partnership between Starwood Capital and Edwardian Group is set to deepen following this acquisition. Edwardian Group will manage the newly acquired hotels temporarily, as Starwood Capital develops its investment strategy for these properties.With this transaction, Starwood Capital’s European hotel investments now encompass 47 hotels, totaling approximately 10,000 rooms.Tim Abram, Managing Director at Starwood Capital, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. He highlighted London as a highly desirable hotel market and noted the unique scale of exposure this portfolio provides. Starwood Capital plans substantial capital expenditure to enhance these hotels further.Inderneel Singh, CEO of Edwardian Group, described the sale as a strategic decision to refocus the group and prepare for future growth. He emphasised the group’s commitment to offering unique guest experiences in their three landmark properties: The Londoner, The May Fair Hotel, and The Edwardian Manchester.The transaction was supported by JLL, which provided real estate advisory services, and Baker McKenzie, which offered legal services to Edwardian Group.
