Salford City Council is actively seeking public input for the second phase of its Local Plan, presenting a unique opportunity for developers to engage in the early stages of shaping the city’s future. This phase of the plan, building on the successful adoption of its first part, is critical in determining the direction of housing and employment development across Salford.

Part two of the Local Plan is designed to align with ‘Places for Everyone’, a comprehensive development strategy involving nine Greater Manchester districts. This plan, which is nearing adoption, sets out the housing requirements and major site allocations for the sub-region.

For potential developers, this consultation phase offers an invaluable chance to understand and influence the planning strategy for Salford. It covers aspects such as housing needs, office and industrial development, and the enhancement of town centres, including Eccles, Walkden, Swinton, and Pendleton.

Residents and developers alike are encouraged to provide feedback on potential development sites and Local Green Spaces that need protection. The consultation, open until 24 January 2024, also seeks views on sustainability, health, and equality aspects of the plan.

Councillor Mike McCusker, Lead Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainable Development, emphasised the importance of community and developer involvement in the planning process. “We’re inviting everyone, including local and regional developers, to take part in this consultation to help create a fairer and more sustainable Salford,” he said.

The responses gathered in this initial consultation will be instrumental in drafting the second part of the Local Plan, with a further public review expected in the summer of 2024. This early stage engagement could present a significant opportunity for developers to shape the city’s developmental trajectory and contribute to Salford’s long-term vision.
