Edinburgh is gearing up to establish three state-of-the-art educational institutions. To accommodate the growing populace, especially from new residential projects in the city’s west, a fresh primary and secondary school will be erected. Additionally, an older primary school, currently in a deteriorating state, is slated for replacement. These initiatives had previously faced postponements due to the unforeseen challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joan Griffiths, a key figure in Edinburgh City Council’s Education, Children and Families division, expressed her enthusiasm for the progress, emphasizing the importance of equipping the youth with top-tier educational facilities. One of the proposed high schools is planned for Kirkliston, replacing the town’s current sports center. This decision has sparked some concerns within the community, particularly regarding the potential traffic and parking implications.

In South Queensferry, a non-religious primary school is in the pipeline, aiming to serve the upcoming housing projects in the vicinity. The council has already secured a location for this school, with its inauguration targeted for 2026. Meanwhile, St Catherine’s RC Primary in Gracemount is set to undergo a complete overhaul, with a new building proposed in a nearby location. This decision came after evaluations revealed the existing structure was no longer fit for purpose. The revamped school will not only cater to current needs but will also be designed with future expansion possibilities in mind.
