Housing & Residential: Wales Wrexham Council Approves Over 500 New Homes in Stansty and Rhosrobin Developments January 9th, 2024 Mya Driver Wrexham County Council has approved two major residential projects proposed by Russell Homes and SG Estates. The plans, which were discussed in a lengthy planning committee meeting, will see the creation of 547 new homes in the Stansty and Rhosrobin areas.Russell Homes’ outline application, which includes plans to build up to 455 homes on a 53-acre site on either side of Stansty Chain Road, was a major focus of the meeting. The plan, initially submitted in 2019, faced scrutiny over its potential impact on local health services and traffic. Despite these concerns, the council voted in favour of the development. The scheme is part of the broader strategy outlined in the recently adopted Wrexham local development plan, which earmarks greenfield land for housing. The Stansty project, designed by White Young Green, now part of Tetra Tech, offers a mix of one to four-bedroom homes, including 114 affordable residences.Gary Lynch, Planning Director at Russell Homes, lauded the decision, noting the site’s sustainable location and its proximity to essential amenities like retail centres, schools, and transport links. He emphasised the project’s focus on enhancing walking, cycling, and public transport options, making it an attractive choice for local residents. In Rhosrobin, SG Estates received approval for its application to build 92 homes on a 12-acre plot off Llay New Road. The Saer Architects-designed project includes 23 affordable homes and aims to increase biodiversity with substantial public space, including play and wildlife areas. The plans for both sites align with the council’s objective of accommodating the growing housing demand while maintaining the sustainability and openness of the development sites. These new residential projects represent a crucial step in addressing the housing needs in Wrexham, with a focus on community involvement and environmental considerations.
