West Midlands Wolverhampton Council Partners with English Cities Fund for Major Regeneration Project July 12th, 2024 Mya Driver The City of Wolverhampton Council has formalised a development agreement with English Cities Fund (ECF) for the ambitious City Centre West regeneration scheme. The 12-acre redevelopment area, spanning from School Street to Darlington Street, including Market Square, aims to transform Wolverhampton’s urban landscape.ECF, a collaboration between Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse Developments, was chosen as the preferred partner for this project in October. The agreement was recently approved at a meeting of the council’s joint cabinet and cabinet resources panel.The phased transformation of City Centre West is set to deliver between 800 and 1,000 new homes, alongside leisure and retail facilities, marking a major step in Wolverhampton’s urban development. ECF plans to submit detailed planning applications for the first phase and outline applications for the entire site later this year.Councillor Chris Burden, cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills, commented: “The council approved ECF as the preferred partner for City Centre West because of their strong track record of working with local authorities in partnership to create great places, bringing together investment and their regeneration expertise, while providing long-term commitment to social value outcomes.”This initiative is part of the broader Wolverhampton Investment Prospectus, which aims to capitalise on both public and private sector investment for economic growth and urban development.
