Housing & Residential: Scotland Wheatley Homes South to Construct 800 Affordable Homes in Dumfries and Galloway December 6th, 2023 Mya Driver Wheatley Homes South, a major social housing provider, plans to build over 800 new homes in Dumfries and Galloway. These homes are part of the company’s efforts to meet the region’s housing demand and will be spread across a dozen new projects.The homes, designed to be modern and energy-efficient, are a key aspect of Wheatley Group’s wider regeneration initiatives. Managing Director Alan Glasgow emphasised the project’s focus on creating affordable housing options and improving regional infrastructure, including transport and job opportunities.Dumfries and Galloway Council, represented by Councillor Ian Carruthers, has expressed support for this initiative. The Council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan, with over £61 million allocated for the next three years, aims to aid social landlords and private developers in housing construction.The first phase of this project will begin in early 2024 at the former Curries Yard in Heathhall, followed by developments in Springholm, Stranraer, Newton Stewart, Johnstonebridge, and Thornhill. These homes will feature low-carbon technologies like solar panels and energy-efficient heating.This housing initiative is part of Wheatley Homes South’s larger investment programme, which has already contributed over £40 million to Dumfries and Galloway’s local economy since 2019.
