UKREiiF has announced a ground breaking partnership with Ecolibrium, the environmental charity committed to tackling the carbon footprint of live events. This collaboration introduces a cutting-edge programme designed to dramatically reduce the carbon emissions associated with attending events, specifically targeting the largest source of emissions: travel.

Acknowledging the pressing need for actionable climate change solutions, UKREiiF encourages attendees to explore low carbon travel options, seamlessly integrated into their event planning. Participants are urged to use Ecolibrium’s Travel Carbon Calculator to measure and subsequently offset their travel emissions. Donations can be channelled towards the Energy Revolution programme, which funds renewable energy projects, or Trees+, supporting ecosystem restoration efforts.

This initiative represents a collective endeavour by the live events industry to address the urgent climate crisis, fostering a culture of climate action and sustainable travel. Ecolibrium’s work, alongside over 160 event industry members since 2015, underscores a significant investment in environmental restoration and carbon offsetting, amounting to over £659,000 directed towards renewable energy projects and ecosystem regeneration.

The narrative surrounding event-related carbon emissions recently gained attention with the revelation of the significant carbon footprint generated by attendees of a major commercial real estate event in Cannes, known for its opulence and high-profile networking opportunities. The irony of the industry’s contribution to carbon emissions, whilst advocating for sustainable development and carbon management, underscores the imperative for initiatives like UKREiiF’s partnership with Ecolibrium.

This collaboration between UKREiiF and Ecolibrium not only aims to mitigate the environmental impact of attending live events but also seeks to inspire a broader reflection within the industry on sustainable practices and the true cost of networking events in terms of carbon emissions. As the industry moves forward, this partnership sets a new standard for responsible event participation, ensuring that every step taken towards networking and professional growth also contributes positively to the planet’s health.

As we look towards the future of live events and professional gatherings, UKREiiF and Ecolibrium invite industry professionals to join them in reimagining how we convene, share knowledge, and build connections in a way that honours our commitment to environmental sustainability. Together, we can transform the narrative, ensuring that our collective actions support a green and prosperous future.

UKREiiF Event Manager Fahmida Nisa said:  ‘We wanted to create actionable outputs at UKREiiF, which is why we are actively encouraging our partners to offset their emissions as part of the Sustainability Pledge they have signed up to. Opening this up further, recognising the effects on our environment that travelling to and from live events can cause, we have partnered with Ecolibirum, so all at UKREiiF can take responsibility for each of our emissions and work towards a greener future’.

This is not the first time that UKREiiF has strived to offset the environmental impact of so many people travelling within the UK to the event in Leeds. In 2023, UKREiiF worked in partnership with Moda/Caddick Group to offset all travel emissions and they continue to make this issue a shared priority,
