Many people see Torbay as a great holiday destination with a thriving fishing port but dig a little deeper and you come across a small but powerful electronics and photonics sector who are our Tech by the Bay.

Our Hi-Tech cluster has come together with the help of EPIC, the Electronic and Photonics Innovation Centre based in Paignton. In fact, in less than three years, EPIC has established itself as an internationally-recognised hub for technology.

EPIC tenants develop and manufacture essential components that are found inside everyday items that we have all come to rely on. These include our smartphones, in-ear headphones and the infrastructure to improve our internet connectivity. These technologies are also applied to other sectors such as Aerospace, MedTech and Defence.

These businesses are not just supplying the technology that helps make our lives safer and smarter, they are creating the high-value, year-round jobs that supports the local economy. In fact the 13 companies currently operating from EPIC have created more than 100 new roles since its completion in October 2019.
