Exciting plans have been unveiled for the rejuvenation of Thetford’s Abbey Estate, as Flagship Housing Group submits proposals to Breckland Council. The ambitious redevelopment project envisions the demolition and reconstruction of hundreds of homes, alongside the construction of up to 500 new properties.

Over a span of 20 years, the estate is poised to undergo a remarkable transformation, with Flagship Housing Group expressing its commitment to engaging with residents throughout the process.

“We’ve spent five years listening to the people of Abbey,” stated Peter Hawes, chairman of Flagship Group. “Their feedback has been instrumental in shaping our plans for the estate.”

While the exact number of additional housing units is pending further consultation, efforts will be made to enhance existing properties and retrofit them for improved living standards.

Amidst the anticipation for the redevelopment, some residents have expressed excitement about the prospect of revitalisation, viewing the project as an opportunity for positive change.

“Our community deserves homes that are secure and neighbourhoods that are safe,” said Chloe Taylor, a Thetford resident leading a petition in support of the plans. “Let us stand together and demand a future that preserves the essence of our community.”
