The council identifies a “regeneration catalyst” in the town following a feasibility study.

Tameside Council looked into the possibilities of delivering homes across the area and is now preparing to bring the Stalybridge West opportunity to market.

The 400-home scheme, which will include commercial space, is to be discussed at Tameside’s place scrutiny committee next week, where a development prospectus advertising the scheme will be approved.

Tameside Council has bid for £35m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund, of which £11m will go towards enabling work to pave the way for Stalybridge West.

This would include work on several brownfield sites for future residential development and facilitating further private sector investment.

Denton is the other town in line to benefit from levelling up cash with £12m for improvements.

Plans are also progressing for St Petersfield, a £100m business district with the potential to create 170,000 sq ft of workspace.
