South Staffordshire Council has outlined a strategic Local Plan targeting the development of 4,086 new homes, concentrating on areas with excellent access to services and transportation. The initiative prioritises “tier one” settlements, which are identified as having the greatest access to facilities and are within walking distance of a train station.

The council’s approach follows a national policy framework urging the optimisation of non-Green Belt land to meet housing needs efficiently. This strategy aligns with the government’s guidelines to ensure sustainable and accessible housing development.

Council Deputy Leader Victoria Wilson highlighted the council’s commitment to considering key planning factors such as accessibility and sustainability in their strategic planning. The plan also includes economic initiatives, like allocating land near the M6 junction 13 north of Penkridge, which aims to boost local employment opportunities.

The proposal is set to undergo a six-week public consultation beginning on April 15. The council plans to submit the final plan for state examination next year, solidifying their commitment to structured and thoughtful development in South Staffordshire.
