St Helens Council is set to decide on an application to demolish the long-abandoned Penkford School in Newton-le-Willows. The school is situated at the corner of Wharf Road and Common Road, has deteriorated significantly since its closure.

The demolition plan includes removing all buildings on the site, but the foundations, car parks, and service roads will be preserved. Asbestos is present in the structure, and the council plans to employ a specialist for safe removal.

The decision will be made during the council meeting on 3 September, with demolition expected to commence by late September if the application is approved.
