Planning and Property: London Southwark Council Approves £350 Million Life Sciences Hub October 16th, 2025 Mya Driver Southwark Council has approved plans for Snowsfields Quarter, a £350 million life sciences hub that will transform South Central London into a centre of health and medical innovation.The project is a joint venture between Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, Oxford Properties, and Reef + Partners. It will deliver approximately 360,000 sq ft of multi-functional space across three new buildings near London Bridge, including 245,000 sq ft of specialist laboratories designed for research in medical technology, genetics, and neuroscience.Snowsfields Quarter will play a key role in advancing the London Growth Plan and the SC1 Life Sciences Innovation District, helping to establish Southwark as a global centre for health innovation. The development is expected to create around 890 new ongoing jobs, spanning positions from lab technicians and scientists to medical researchers and support staff.The scheme will include exhibition and training spaces, health and wellbeing amenities, and facilities designed to benefit the local community. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 following site clearance in 2026.Snowsfields Quarter will target some of the highest sustainability standards in the UK, aiming for BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum, and net zero carbon in operation. During construction, 95% of waste will be diverted from landfill, reflecting the partners’ commitment to environmental responsibility.Located close to King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the hub will strengthen connections between academia, industry, and clinical research. By attracting leading companies and top research talent, Snowsfields Quarter will support medical advances that improve health outcomes locally and globally.
