Safestore has obtained planning permission to develop a new self‑storage facility in south London, allowing the project to move forward subject to any remaining local authority conditions.

The approved scheme will provide a purpose-built Safestore facility serving both residents and businesses in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames (Norbiton area). The site, already designated for employment and industrial use, is being redeveloped into a modern, low-intensity storage building. The design incorporates on-site parking and servicing to minimise traffic and impact on neighbouring homes.

Safestore is targeting a BREEAM “Excellent” sustainability rating for the development, integrating energy-efficient lighting, low-carbon power, biodiversity enhancements, improved landscaping, tree planting, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The new facility will offer flexible storage options for domestic and business customers, supporting local small firms, trades, and residents in need of additional space. The project represents a low-impact approach to retaining jobs and employment floorspace while upgrading older industrial premises, in line with local planning policies.
