Puma Property Finance has committed a £13 million loan to facilitate a collaborative venture between the McGoff Group and Patrick Properties, earmarked for a unique intergenerational development in Bowdon, South Manchester. This innovative project encompasses a care home and a children’s day nursery, specifically designed to encourage regular interaction between young and elderly residents.

The development plan includes constructing a 51-bed care home, each room featuring an en-suite wet-room. In conjunction, there will be a children’s day nursery accommodating approximately 90 places. The initiative focuses on fostering intergenerational activities, such as children creating newsletters for care home residents and elders participating in reading sessions for the children, aiming to alleviate loneliness among the elderly while boosting language, reading, and social skills in the young.

The care home and nursery are scheduled for completion in December 2024 and February 2025, respectively. New Care is set to operate the care home, and Back to the Garden Childcare, both entities under the McGoff Group’s brand umbrella, will manage the nursery.

This project represents the ninth joint endeavour between Puma and the McGoff Group, underscoring Puma’s dedication to the care sector. A key feature of the development is the preservation of the Hydro, a heritage building on the site, which will be integrated into the new scheme.

Tony Throp, a director at Puma, conveyed his excitement for this new intergenerational scheme in Bowdon, emphasizing the growing recognition of the benefits of cross-generational interactions. He anticipates the project will positively impact care residents, children, and the broader community.

Chris McGoff, principal at McGoff Group, commended Puma for providing nearly £13m in senior debt facilities, which will aid in converting a formerly derelict hotel site into a lively environment for both children and the elderly. He lauded Puma’s proactive and collaborative approach throughout the development process.

This development in Bowdon is poised to be more than just a building project, representing a community-enhancing endeavour that creates a nurturing space for meaningful connections across generations.
