Councillor Elaine Taylor, Cabinet Member for Housing and Licensing, emphasizes the importance of public participation in this process. “The Local Plan is integral to the future of Oldham. It’s about the homes we live in, the places we work, and our local amenities,” she states, highlighting the significant impact of planning on daily life.Alongside policies on housing and the economy, the plan prioritizes environmental sustainability, climate change mitigation, and accessibility for all residents. It is also geared towards enhancing essential infrastructure like transport and utilities, ensuring Oldham’s development is comprehensive and forward-looking.The upcoming participation in UKREiiF 2024 is a strategic move to showcase Oldham’s vision on a larger stage, offering opportunities for networking and attracting potential investments. This aligns with the Places for Everyone (PfE) initiative, a collaboration among nine Greater Manchester councils, focusing on long-term sustainable growth.Residents are encouraged to engage with the Draft Local Plan consultation, open until 21 February 2024, through various channels including the Big Oldham Conversation online portal. Drop-in sessions will also be available for those wishing to contribute in person.
