Newcastle City Council is moving forward with plans to demolish Hexham House, a 16-storey high-rise in Walker, as part of a broader initiative to revitalise the area and provide new housing opportunities for residents.

The demolition of Hexham House, alongside nearby low-rise flats over Church Walk shops, will pave the way for the construction of up to 50 new homes on the Church Street site. This project is integral to the council’s strategy to enhance the local community and meet housing demands.

A council spokesperson stated, “Plans for the demolition of Hexham House are progressing, with safety as a primary concern.” The council is consulting with local stakeholders and service providers to ensure the demolition is conducted efficiently and safely.

The controlled explosion method, previously used successfully for the neighbouring Titan House, will clear the site for future development. This initiative underscores Newcastle City Council’s commitment to urban renewal and the creation of modern housing solutions for its residents.
