Airports and Aviation: Scotland New Premier Inn Hotel Approved for Edinburgh Airport September 2nd, 2025 Mya Driver Premier Inn has secured planning approval for a new 218-bedroom hotel at Edinburgh Airport, with the development scheduled to open in 2028. The decision follows a ‘mind to grant’ consent from Edinburgh City Council, marking a major milestone in Whitbread’s ongoing expansion across the Scottish capital.Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, worked in partnership with Riverstone Hotels to bring forward the plans, which include an L-shaped building of five floors (ground plus four upper stories). The hotel will be within a ten-minute walk of the airport terminal, offering maximum convenience for passengers.The new hotel will showcase Premier Inn’s latest bedroom designs, including upgraded Premier Plus rooms for added comfort. Guests will enjoy ‘The Social’, a contemporary ground-floor communal space designed for relaxing, working, or dining. Reflecting Whitbread’s sustainability commitments, the property will be powered entirely by renewable electricity and will provide 100 on-site guest parking spaces.The project is part of Whitbread’s wider growth strategy in Edinburgh. Alongside two other hotels currently under development, the company plans to add more than 500 affordable rooms across the city. Premier Inn already operates 14 hotels in Edinburgh, with guests estimated to contribute more than £32 million each year to the city’s external economy.
