Puma Property Finance has announced the provision of a £20 million loan facility to Zephyr X for the development of two new care homes in the South-East. The funding, split into £13 million and £7 million loans, will support the construction of care homes in Reigate, Surrey, and Whitchurch, Reading, respectively.

The £13 million loan will finance the construction of an 80-bed all-electric care home in Reigate, located on the site of a former independent hospital. This facility will feature amenities such as a hairdresser, a cinema and entertainment room, a private dining area, a café, and a gym. Importantly, it will address a critical shortfall in wet room provision in the area, with only 25% of current facilities built since 2000. The project is expected to be completed by December 2025.

Meanwhile, the £7 million loan will fund a 45-bed care home in Whitchurch, Reading. The home will cater to the growing demand for quality care in the region, offering all ensuite wet rooms and various amenities, including lounges, therapy rooms, and a café/bistro. With construction underway, the facility is anticipated to be completed by January 2025.

Puma Property Finance has now partnered with Zephyr X on four care home projects. Tony Throp, Director and Head of Healthcare at Puma, emphasised the importance of addressing the UK’s chronic undersupply of quality care beds, stating, “It is more important than ever that we address the chronic undersupply of quality care beds across the UK, with 144,000 additional care homes needed to meet population growth in the next 10 years.”

Zephyr X’s Founder, Adam Faulkner, expressed enthusiasm for the projects, saying, “We are thrilled to embark on the renovation and development of these two new stunning care homes. Our vision is to create spaces that provide exceptional care and comfort for residents, reflecting the beauty and tranquillity of their surroundings.”

These projects will undoubtedly be highlighted at upcoming property networking events in the South-East, where industry professionals may explore further collaborations. Such initiatives could also be discussed at local construction business events, where the focus is likely to be on how to meet the rising demand for healthcare facilities in the region.
