A promising proposal to construct nearly 300 homes on a former factory site in Melton has been met with optimism from local residents. This positive sentiment from the community could significantly enhance the chances of the project gaining approval. While there are considerations to address, the majority of residents see the proposed housing estate as a beneficial transformation compared to the land remaining unused.

The redevelopment plans for the old factory off Snow Hill, which include 298 new homes, are set to be reviewed by the Melton Borough Council later this year. The revamped plans for the brownfield site also feature amenities like a riverside walk, a green play street, and a Community Square. These additions aim to offer a “softer, greener gateway into Melton Country Park,” as outlined in the planning documents.

Estate agent Savills emphasized the strategic location of the site, describing it as a “vacant brownfield site close to the town centre in Melton Mowbray in a very sustainable location.” Local resident Richard Burton voiced his support, stating, “Get them built, the land wants to be used… The plans look far more appealing than the current state.” Another resident echoed this sentiment, suggesting that a housing estate is a much-needed upgrade from its current status as an abandoned factory.

With the community’s positive feedback and the project’s potential benefits, there’s a growing anticipation for the Melton Borough Council’s decision on the outline plans in the coming months.
