A former waste site in Shipley, which has remained empty since being gutted by fire in 2018, could soon be demolished. The Associated Waste Management site on Valley Road is considered “no longer fit for modern day use,” and an application to demolish its structures has been submitted to Bradford Council.

Oniel Construction (Yorkshire) has proposed the demolition of a building known as Consortium House, along with a large wall separating the site from Valley Road. This application follows the council’s earlier refusal of a planning application to build a sports centre and drive-through takeaway on the site.

The demolition application states, “The main reasons for demolition are that the building and wall are no longer fit for modern day use or alteration. The site is being prepared for redevelopment and the building and wall are proving unsafe and require immediate remedial work.”

Bradford Council’s Conservation Officer, Hannah Meekings, commented on the plans, saying, “The site does not form part of a listed building (or is located within the curtilage of a listed building) and is not within a conservation area.”

A decision from Bradford Council is expected later this month.
