London’s Haringey Borough Council has initiated the tender process for a groundbreaking £3 billion public sector housing framework, aimed at fostering new build and retrofit projects across London and the Home Counties. This ambitious move is designed to revitalize the lineup of construction firms, providing opportunities for both established companies and SMEs to contribute to the region’s housing development.

Set to replace the soon-to-expire London Construction Programme major works framework, this new scheme narrows its focus to housing, aiming to encompass a wider array of firms and extend the scope of housing-related works. The initiative reflects a strategic pivot towards enhancing the quality and quantity of housing through modern construction methods and sustainable practices.

The framework’s scope is comprehensive, covering new build housing, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), planned maintenance, retrofitting, fire safety improvements, and refurbishments, among other aspects. It is structured into various lots to accommodate projects of differing scales and complexities, including contracts ranging from £5 million to over £20 million, alongside specific focuses like Passivhaus standards and multi-use developments.

With the current framework housing over 20 appointed firms and serving a membership of 60 public sector bodies in London and the surrounding counties, the new arrangement seeks to broaden participation and drive forward housing projects with an emphasis on innovation and sustainability.

Interested firms are encouraged to submit their bids by April, with procurement documents readily available for review. This framework represents a significant opportunity for the construction industry to engage with public sector housing projects, contributing to the development of resilient and sustainable communities in one of the UK’s most dynamic regions.
