Leeds City Council has given its unanimous approval for the development of a new, mixed-use neighbourhood known as South Village, poised to transform the South Bank of Leeds into a vibrant urban community. Situated just off Meadow Road, near the River Aire and the heart of Leeds city centre, the project is spearheaded by Caddick Developments.

South Village, formerly known as City One, is set to become a groundbreaking residential area within one of the UK’s largest brownfield regeneration zones. The scheme encompasses an impressive 2 million square feet, promising to deliver up to 1,925 homes. In addition to residential spaces, the plan includes 650,000 square feet of commercial premises and ample landscaped areas for public enjoyment. At the heart of this development will be a ‘village green’, envisaged to be the size of a professional sports field, designed to foster community engagement among residents and locals alike.

Lee Savage, a director at Caddick Developments, shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to revolutionise city-centre living. According to Savage, South Village is not just a housing project but an ambitious attempt to create a new neighbourhood that embodies modern architecture, substantial public spaces, and improved connectivity between Holbeck and the city centre. This development aims to cater to a diverse group of residents, including professionals, families, those enjoying their retirement, and students, by offering a variety of living options.

As the planning phase progresses, Caddick Developments is committed to working in partnership with key stakeholders and the community to ensure that South Village becomes a dynamic addition to the South Bank, ushering in a vibrant era of urban living in Leeds.
