Leeds City Council has disclosed its plans for the demolition and subsequent redevelopment of multiple areas within the city, targeting an augmentation in the number of affordable homes.

Gipton

For Gipton, initial demolition notices have been served for properties at 1-61 Gipton Gate West, LS9 6BZ and 62-121 Gipton Gate East, LS9 6SU. The underlying motive for these demolitions is the all-encompassing redevelopment of the Gipton Gate East and West sites. The demolition process is scheduled to commence from 1 November 2024 and is expected to conclude by 30 November 2029.

Moortown

In Moortown, initial demolition notifications relate to the properties at 1-61 Alderton Heights, LS17 5LU; 62-121 Alderton Heights, LS17 5LT; and 122–181 Alderton Heights, LS17 5LS. The rationale behind these demolitions is the comprehensive overhaul of the Alderton Heights sites. The period earmarked for these demolitions spans from 1 November 2024 to 30 November 2029.

The Council emphasises that while these notices are in effect, no grants related to any right to buy claims for dwellings within the mentioned premises will be obligated by the council. However, there may be a potential for compensation for any pre-existing right to buy claims, in accordance with section 138C of the Housing Act 1985.
