Hull City Council’s Cabinet is poised to deliberate on a pivotal report outlining the design brief for the West Docklands area. This ambitious plan is set to establish a comprehensive planning framework, paving the way for the area’s development and rejuvenation.

Strategically located, the West Docklands is encircled by key landmarks and thoroughfares, including the operational Albert and William Wright Docks to the south, the bustling A63 to the north, and the vital arteries of Daltry Street and Commercial Road.

Central to this visionary framework is a series of objectives aimed at bolstering the local economy and enhancing community life. These include supporting the existing local businesses, fostering employment growth with a special focus on a new medi-tech centre, and introducing new housing south of Wellington Street West. Additionally, the plan encompasses the retention and enhancement of the popular ice arena and explores the potential for a cruise facility at the Albert and William Wright Dock, subject to external funding.

This comprehensive plan follows a formal consultation conducted earlier in the year, and it now seeks final approval to bring these ambitious plans to fruition while ensuring all stakeholders are duly informed and involved.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, the portfolio holder for regeneration and housing, expressed optimism about the project. “The council recognises the immense potential for positive regeneration and transformation in the West Docklands area. This new masterplan is a critical step towards realising that potential,” he stated. “Our aim is to drive employment and economic growth in the area, alongside retaining the ice arena and expanding leisure activities. We’ve reached this promising juncture thanks to the valuable input from local businesses and residents.”
