Havering to Host Europe’s Largest Data Centre June 11th, 2024 Mya Driver Plans have been submitted for the construction of Europe’s largest data centre on the outskirts of Havering. The proposed East Havering Data Centre, developed by London-based Digital Reef, will cover 40 hectares and include facilities for data storage, battery storage, horticulture, education, and renewable energy.Situated on the border between Havering and Thurrock, the project also includes a 113-hectare ecology park that will be open to the public.Havering Council has expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to create 1,240 permanent jobs. A council spokesperson stated, “The council is confident that if the data centre is approved, it will be a catalyst for new high-tech industries locating in the borough, providing further job opportunities, particularly for our young people.”The development will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources, aligning with the council’s net-zero targets. Public consultations will be held to further discuss the project and address any community concerns.Digital Reef is pursuing a local development order (LDO) to streamline the approval process, which will be decided by the council leadership.
