Edinburgh is set to witness a transformative urban rejuvenation as plans are rolled out for the construction of new residential flats. These flats are strategically aimed at replacing the long-abandoned industrial yards and garages that currently occupy a prime location adjacent to the city’s bustling Gorgie Road.

The detailed proposal envisions the transformation of these derelict spaces into two contemporary apartment blocks, housing a total of 63 units. This development is slated for a parcel of land situated a mere 30 metres south of 495 Gorgie Road. Adding to the project’s significance is the fact that 15 of these apartments are designated as affordable housing, underscoring Edinburgh’s dedication to fostering diverse housing solutions for its populace.

This development initiative traces its origins back to a pre-planning application submitted in September 2022. The site, identified as a brownfield, had previously served a dual purpose, accommodating both industrial yard storage and domestic garages that catered to the neighbouring tenements.

With this proposal, Edinburgh is not only addressing its housing needs but also signalling a broader shift towards urban renewal.
