Housing & Residential: Scotland Edinburgh Council Approves Landmark £1.3bn Granton Waterfront Regeneration Project November 28th, 2024 Deividas Krupstas Edinburgh City Council has approved the first phase of the ambitious £1.3 billion regeneration of the Granton Waterfront, a project set to transform the northern coastline into a vibrant and sustainable community. In collaboration with Cruden Homes, the development will deliver 847 net zero-ready homes, making it Scotland’s largest and most significant brownfield redevelopment.The first phase, scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2032, will create a new standard for sustainable urban living. It will include 847 homes available across tenures including sale, social rent, and mid-market rent. A new primary school is planned as part of the community infrastructure, alongside commercial units, public and open spaces, and sustainable transport links. The project will incorporate a low-carbon heat network and active travel routes to encourage environmentally friendly living.In addition to its focus on sustainability, the project celebrates the area’s rich heritage. The historic Granton Gasholder, known as Gas Holder 1, will be transformed into a public park, creating a unique recreational space for residents and visitors. The former Granton Station will also be restored and complemented by a new square, offering a cultural and community hub within the development.
