Taylor Wimpey has purchased land at the former Ironbridge Power Station site in Shropshire for approximately £19.55 million. The housebuilder plans to construct 200 homes, in addition to the 110 homes already planned by Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

This transaction represents the second phase of Harworth Group’s mixed-use development at Benthall Grange, following a previous sale to Barratt and David Wilson Homes in December 2022. Harworth, a land regeneration and property investment specialist, acquired the 350-acre site in June 2018 and received planning approval in September 2021.

The development will ultimately include over 1,000 homes, a retirement village, 200,000 square feet of employment space, and a local centre with shops and services. Community amenities will feature a primary school, allotments, sports pitches, and a renovated 1930s pumphouse for community use.

Lynda Shillaw, chief executive at Harworth, stated, “This transaction highlights the continued appeal of our serviced land to housebuilders, enabling them to quickly execute on their delivery plans to create new homes in highly desirable communities. It provides a clear example of how, as a master developer, we can create and release value through our extensive landbank to fund our industrial and logistics development programme, supporting our ambitious growth plans to reach £1bn EPRA NDV by the end of 2027.”

With this sale, nearly one-third of the available plots have been sold. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.
