Cala Homes has secured nearly six acres of land on Glasgow’s southside, previously an industrial site, to build over 250 homes. The 5.87-acre plot in Cathcart, once home to ClydeUnion Pumps, was purchased from the US firm Celeros Flow Technology. The new development, named The Foundry, will feature a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as two and three-bedroom penthouses.

Cala Homes (West) was selected as the residential partner in October 2022 to transform the surplus land acquired by Celeros FT from SPX Flow in 2020. Planning permission for the project was granted by Glasgow City Council in March 2024.

Moray Stewart, land director at Cala Homes (West), said: “We are extremely excited about The Foundry which will be truly unique in the area, enhancing biodiversity and creating numerous social economic benefits within the community. The acquisition of the site is an important milestone and working with our project partners, we will now get under way with preparatory works immediately.

“The investment made by Cala to develop The Foundry underlines our commitment to enhancing urban communities, creating better housing opportunities for a wide demographic of people as well as facilitating new jobs that will importantly help to grow the local economy.”

The development will include eco-friendly features, such as ground source heat pumps and passive electric vehicle charging points. Additionally, the site will offer landscaped communal areas, integrated cycle and walkways, and proximity to local amenities, including shops, cafes, and parks. Cathcart train station, with regular services to Glasgow city centre, is less than a five-minute walk from the site.

Cala Homes is investing £61 million in the development, with the first homes expected to be available by spring 2025. This project is anticipated to draw significant interest from prospective residents, reflecting the ongoing demand for new homes in Glasgow.

The project might be discussed at upcoming construction business events and infrastructure investment events in Glasgow, where professionals could explore the impact of such developments on urban regeneration and housing supply. The Foundry’s sustainable design approach could also feature prominently at property networking events in the region.
