Bradford Council has approved the demolition of fire-damaged structures on Valley Road, Shipley. Consortium House and a section of the wall from the former Associated Waste Management site will be taken down over three days.

The site has been vacant since a fire in 2018. Earlier this year, plans to develop the area into a leisure centre and drive-thru takeaway were rejected by the council.

Oniel Construction (Yorkshire) notified the council of its intentions to demolish the structures, citing safety concerns. The company stated, “The site is being prepared for redevelopment and the building and wall are proving unsafe and require immediate remedial work.”

Conservation Officer Hannah Meekings commented, “The site does not form part of a listed building and is not within a conservation area. Whilst it is very regrettable, it does not appear that there are grounds to request planning permission for the demolition.”

The demolition will proceed without the need for a full planning application. Post-demolition, the site will be left clean and ready for future redevelopment, with new proposals currently being drafted.
