Barnet Council Seeks Collaboration for £145m Grahame Park Revamp October 20th, 2023 Mya Driver Barnet Council, located in North London, is on the hunt for a collaborator to expedite the redevelopment of the north-eastern segment of the expansive Grahame Park estate in Collindale. The initial phase of the project will see the removal of existing structures, which currently house 290 residences, to make way for 505 new homes. This phase encompasses blocks such as Slatter, Sopwith, and Tedder, among others. The chosen company will enter into a joint venture with Barnet Homes, the housing division of the local authority. This collaboration aims to spearhead the transformation of Barnet’s most extensive residential estate. The joint venture will first focus on the northern section of Grahame Park North East (Phase 1). Upon successful completion, they will proceed to the £125m southern section (Phase 2).Constructed in the 1960s and 70s, the Grahame Park Estate has been on the list for rejuvenation for some time. The initial stage, comprising 685 residences, is already complete. The subsequent stage, which received planning approval in 2020, is projected to offer 2,088 homes in the estate’s southern region. However, the revamp has been sluggish due to current market dynamics and the vastness of the rejuvenation task. This has led to predictions that the northern sections wouldn’t witness any rejuvenation until the 2030s.This delay spurred Barnet to advance the regeneration of this estate segment by collaborating with a new partner. Thanks to a £22.4m grant from the Greater London Authority, the project is set to provide a balanced mix of affordable housing, including properties for social rent, within a towering, multi-tenure building complex.
