A significant development opportunity has arisen at Alexandra Dock, with the release of a brownfield site for a new housing project near Grimsby’s Fishing Heritage Centre. The Council is seeking development partners for this 6.25-acre town centre site, which is poised to become a thriving residential community of around 130 homes, along with commercial accommodations.

Strategically located behind the recently refurbished Garth Lane waterfront area and bordered by Fisherman’s Wharf and the River Freshney, this site forms a key part of Grimsby’s Town Centre Masterplan, supported by Homes England. The plan capitalises on the site’s proximity to water and the recent improvements in the area, including the completion of a new footbridge over the River in 2021.

This development opportunity is underpinned by approximately £7.8 million of investment, secured through the Government’s Towns Fund, dedicated to supporting the site’s transformation. Cllr Philip Jackson, who leads the council with responsibilities including the economy, net zero, skills, and housing, emphasised the project’s objective to create a vibrant urban living environment that connects the town to its waterside.

Acknowledging the scale and duration of such projects, Jackson reiterated the council’s commitment to enhancing the overall appeal and functionality of the town centre. This development forms a critical step in the council’s broader vision for revitalising and reimagining the town centre, making it a more attractive and enjoyable place for the community.
