Croydon Council is making strides towards a potential multimillion-pound redevelopment of Croydon town centre, with We Made That at the forefront, orchestrating a strategic vision for this significant urban transformation.

This ambitious initiative, set to unfold over the next 15 years, involves a team of specialists led by We Made That. The team encompasses experts in planning (GHPA), socio-economic development (PRD), climate change and sustainability (Useful Projects), community engagement (Turf Projects), heritage and conservation (Place Services), infrastructure and transport (Civic Engineers), and finance (Stockdale).

A pivotal aspect of this potential redevelopment is the engagement of Croydon’s diverse community, including local residents, businesses, and various stakeholders. Starting next week and continuing until Spring 2024, a series of workshops aims to gather insights and input from these groups, shaping the future vision of the town centre.

The launch of this series was marked by an event on December 8, led by local artist Lina Ivanova, focusing on the experiences of individuals and businesses newly established in the borough.

We Made That, with its extensive experience in Croydon, including the Purley Way mixed-use masterplan and the £2.8m transformation of South End high street, is set to contribute significantly to this project. This redevelopment strategy aligns with Mayor Jason Perry’s efforts to revitalize the Whitgift Centre and the broader regeneration of the town centre.

Further momentum for this redevelopment is evidenced by Croydon Council’s successful bid for £18.5 million from the government’s Levelling Up Fund. These funds are earmarked for six infrastructure and public realm projects, aimed at enhancing connectivity and the overall appeal of the town centre.

Tom Fox, Senior Associate at We Made That, emphasized the importance of this endeavour, stating that the project is not only about refreshing the council’s strategic approach but also about fostering a prosperous future for the borough, with community engagement and collaboration at its core.
