The University of Portsmouth is embarking on an extensive £250 million redevelopment project, aiming to enhance its campus facilities while actively involving student input. The redevelopment plan includes the introduction of a new Student Hub, a modern Technology building, a teaching laboratory, and upgrades to the Victoria Park site, addressing both the academic and wellbeing needs of its students.

Tahir Ahmed, the University’s Director of Estates & Campus Services and Health & Safety, highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Students’ Union to secure alternative spaces for student activities during the redevelopment phase.

The University has outlined its commitment to fostering a vibrant student experience through the new Student Hub, which will offer social learning spaces, wellbeing services, and various student services. Students have been invited to contribute their views on the development proposals, which will inform the planning applications to be submitted to Portsmouth City Council.

The University also clarified its approach to parking and transportation, emphasizing encouragement for students to utilize local transport options and sustainable travel methods. Plans include the construction of a multi-storey car park to consolidate existing parking facilities, enhance security, and support sustainable transport with more electric vehicle charging stations and improved infrastructure for e-scooters, e-bikes, and bicycles.

As the University of Portsmouth moves forward with its ambitious redevelopment, it underscores the value of student and public input in shaping a future-proofed campus that not only elevates the educational environment but also contributes to the broader appeal of the city.
