In a significant move towards advancing the construction of eco-friendly housing in the UK, Greencore Homes has recently received a £30 million investment from M&G Investments. This funding is earmarked for accelerating the company’s ambitious plan to develop 10,000 low carbon, energy-efficient homes across the country, focusing initially on the South East of England.

This new injection of funds builds on a previous £15 million investment from M&G and underscores Greencore’s progression towards becoming a leading national housebuilder. Greencore’s homes are designed to achieve a net zero carbon balance during operation and strive for an even lower embodied carbon footprint, providing future homeowners with the dual benefits of sustainability and reduced living costs.

Central to Greencore’s innovative approach is the use of timber-frame panels, insulated with eco-friendly materials such as hemp, lime, and wood fibre, which can be assembled on-site in just a few days. This method not only speeds up the construction process but also ensures that the homes meet the rigorous Passivhaus standards for energy efficiency.

Unlike traditional modular housing approaches, Greencore’s method allows for the rapid establishment of new factory sites across the UK, fostering local job creation and skill development in the housebuilding sector. The first of these factories was launched in Bicester in 2022, setting the stage for a scalable model of housing development.

With a solid foundation of ongoing and future projects, Greencore is actively seeking new partnerships to extend its reach in both the affordable and private housing markets. The company, under the leadership of industry expert Jon Di-Stefano, boasts a seasoned management team with a wealth of experience in national and regional housebuilding.

The total £45 million investment from M&G forms part of the Catalyst initiative, a purpose-led investment strategy focusing on companies that address major environmental and social challenges. Zach Webb, Head of European Investments for Catalyst, praised Greencore’s innovative and scalable solution to the urgent need for high-quality, ultra-low carbon homes in the UK.

Di-Stefano expressed gratitude for M&G’s continued support, which not only validates Greencore’s vision for climate-positive housing but also provides the necessary resources for land acquisition and community development. This collaboration marks a step forward in the quest for sustainable living solutions, reinforcing Greencore’s commitment to leading the industry in the creation of environmentally friendly homes.
