Grainger, the UK’s largest listed residential landlord, in collaboration with Network Rail and Bloc Group, has announced a partnership to construct 2,000 build-to-rent homes across Britain. This initiative will see the development of purpose-built rental homes in six major cities, utilizing underused brownfield sites near railway infrastructure to boost local economies.

Network Rail will contribute potential build-to-rent sites from its property portfolio, with Grainger overseeing design proposals and funding post-planning approval. This partnership builds on their previous success with The Barnum project in Nottingham, which delivered 348 homes. The move aligns with Grainger’s growth strategy, leveraging well-located and connected sites.

Grainger’s announcement coincides with its full-year results, showcasing a record delivery of 1,640 new homes. With a £3.3bn portfolio of private rental homes and a £1.6bn build-to-rent pipeline, the company maintains high occupancy and rental growth rates, reflecting its commitment to customer loyalty. The British Property Federation reports a surge in construction activity in the build-to-rent sector across regional UK cities.
