A comprehensive masterplan for Droylsden is progressing, fuelled by £100,000 in Homes England and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Evergreen funding.

Led by the consultant team at OPEN (Optimised Environments) and the Council, extensive fact-finding efforts have been underway since the beginning of the year to gather information and evidence crucial for shaping the vision and plan.

As the groundwork unfolds, various concepts and influences are beginning to surface. Central to the masterplan is the emphasis on celebrating local canals, revitalising community spaces and historical landmarks, and enhancing the town centre to cater to the needs of residents and visitors alike.

Crucially, the plan aims to harness the potential of investment in East Manchester, particularly around the Etihad and Co-op Arena developments.

The forthcoming formal consultation will provide an avenue for the public to weigh in on the emerging proposals, ensuring alignment with community and stakeholder aspirations.

Outlined within the draft masterplan are short, medium, and long-term objectives spanning a timeframe of 10-15 years. This strategic approach enables the Council to pursue additional investment and funding avenues to execute the plan and realise the envisioned sustainable future for Droylsden.

Expressing the need for broad engagement, a Tameside Council Spokesperson remarked, “We really need the input of both residents and businesses to help shape the vision and plans. Engaging with the public is a crucial step in the process so it can be a place everyone is proud of.”
